<p>Gantubeelu is situated in Belwe Panchayat limits in Kundapur taluk. As many as 45 houses in the village do not have title deeds. Though they have been residing in the land from the time immemorial, the forest department argues that they are residing in the land belonging to reserve forest. The department comes in the way of drinking water, road, and construction of a house in the region. The children face problem while going for studies as the authorities seek details on title deeds. <br /><br />Though a anganwadi is situated in the village, the centre does not have drinking water facility. Owing to the shortage of water, the residents had stopped agriculture activities and have started working as daily wage labourers. “We are tired of our life owing to the shortage of drinking water and lack of connectivity. Though I have arecanut and coconut plantation, still I face problem owing to the shortage of water and non availability of title deeds,” says Mallu Naik. <br /><br />Though the residents have been residing in the region for more than 100 years, owing to illiteracy, they have created documents to show that they are being residing in the region for the last 25 years. For the regularisation of land and to provide title deeds, the government has asked for the documents to prove that they are residing in the region for the last 75 years. <br /><br />Though the Tahsildar has submitted a report on the confusion over government land and reserve forest land, the villagers are eagerly waiting with a hope that the government will consider their plea for title deeds. The politicians come here only for seeking votes. None understand our problems. The elected representatives and officials should respond positively to our problems. We should not exercise our franchise. <br /><br />When our houses were damaged due to heavy rains, the Gram Panchayat gave us only Rs 1,000,” says Gulabi Naik. <br /><br />When contacted, Kundapur Deputy Tahsildar Sankayya said the problems have not been brought to our notice. “The process of issuing title deeds to few houses in Albadi village is under progress.”</p>
