To a query by U T Khader (Cong), Nirani said the 14 projects have provided employment to 3,984 persons while the 201 projects would provide employment for 3.84 lakh persons.
He said the government has planned to add 18,000 MW to the State grid by commissioning new thermal and gas-based power plants to meet the energy requirement of these projects.

The State government will make arrangements to provide 3,000 MW to these projects, he added.

To a query by A S Patil (Cong) Water Resources Minister Basavaraj Bommai said the government will sign an agreement with the Centre on soil improvement programme across one lakh hectares in the State.

At present, a survey on quality of soil is being done at Almatti and Narayanapura regions and would soon be extended to Malaprabha and Krishna basins, he added.

Bommai told N Sampangi (Congress) that a  proposal is under consideration to provide drinking water facilities to Chikkaballapur and Kolar districts by diverting water from Yettinahole, a tributary of river Nethravathi.

The project will be taken up once the Detailed Project Report (DPR) is prepared, he said.
