Last Updated 07 March 2011, 18:56 IST

The theft was discovered when the Irish players returned to their rooms after Ireland’s World Cup Group B match against India at the Chinnaswamy stadium here on Sunday.
The City Police said Irish cricketer Niall O' Brien had filed a complaint and investigations into the theft were on.

In his complaint, Niall said he had asked the ground staff to load two of his bags onto the bus, but found one of them missing on reaching the hotel, according to Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central Division) G Ramesh.

The DCP hoped the bag would be traced soon.  When contacted, Ireland team media manager Barry Chambers said: “Niall’s bag, which contained six bats, had gone missing and we have already told the host association (KSCA) about it. We have reached Chandigarh today and we expect the bag to reach us by tomorrow (Wednesday) morning.”
