Cop held for graft

 When Deccan Herald contacted Lokayukta DySP Sadananda Vernekar, he said the action was taken against the cop following a complaint by one Muhammad Ashraf of Belthangady. It was said that a case had been filed against Ashraf by his brother’s wife over a family dispute. The police had assured to solve the problem over negotiation. However, the police confiscated the passport of Ashraf and demanded a sum of Rs 1 lakh for returning the passport. The Lokayukta sleuths caught him while accepting the bribe. The Head Constable was produced before the court.

Cheater held

The police arrested a person on the grounds of cheating people by promising them to make quick money at Pumpwell on Tuesday.

According to police, the arrested is Sudheesh Mascarenhas of Dreamz Tours and Travels. He had promised to double the amount invested in an online trading chain scheme within 10 months. He had collected a sum of Rs 75 lakh from 60 persons in Mangalore. A case has been registered.

Deer pelts seized

Mangalore Special Forest Mobile Squad arrested a person and seized two deer pelts at Kushalnagar on Monday.

Acting on a tip off, the police conducted a raid and arrested B Kishor Kumar while attempting to transport pelt to Kushalnagar for sale. A case has been registered.
