Speaking after inaugurating the Sthree Utsav as a part of International Women’s Day celebration at St Ann’s Teachers’ Training College here on Tuesday, she said there is a need to hold a campaign on equality for women on par with men.

Lamenting that women can not move freely like men, she said women are assaulted every minute in the country, which is a tragedy.

“The strength and the power of Akkamahadevi is missing in today’s women. It is a tragedy that Women’s Day is gaining popularity after one century, wherein assault, exploitation against women are being spoken about. The sensitive nature of women is missing in men,” she added.

“The whole society unites when there is any problem in the society. However, when it comes to the assault or exploitation on women, then only women raise their voice and not the whole society. The slavery situation of women has not changed yet,” Vaidehi added.

IFS officer Anitha Arekal, the chief guest on the occasion, stressed the need to develop confidence among women. St Ann’s Teachers’ Training College Principal Dr Sr Clare presided.
A CD on the achievement of 30 women was released on the occasion.
