Women 'feel more guilty responding to phone calls at home'

Researchers at the University of Toronto have carried out the study and found that unlike men, women worry that the calls and messages would interfere with family life even when they do not.

"Guilt seems to play a pivotal role in distinguishing women's work-family experiences from men's," Britain's 'Daily Express' quoted lead researcher Scott Schieman as saying.

He said that while women now have a central role as economic providers, "strong cultural norms lead some to question their family role performance when trying to navigate work issues at home".

The study, published in the 'Journal of Health and Social Behaviour', suggests new technologies are having an impact on health and wellbeing in the home.

Co-researcher Paul Glavin said it "showed women can juggle their work and family lives as well as men, but feel more guilty as a result of being contacted".
