Floored by the ‘Swan’

IMPRESSED Shahid KapoorFox Star Studios’ latest release Black Swan has been receiving much acclaim and appreciation from critics and audiences across the world. Directed by Darren Aronofsky, the psychological thriller, starring Natalie Portman, Vincent Cassel, and Mila Kunis, is the most applauded film of recent times. Natalie even bagged the Academy Award for Actress in a Leading Role for her fantastic performance in the film.

The magnificent tale of a New York City ballerina has managed to floor even a lot of our B-town personalities, one of them being Shahid Kapoor. The actor, who is known to be a fantastic dancer himself, recently saw the movie and tweeted about how much he is in awe of it. He went on to say that he found the movie stunningly poetic and thought that it was a violent interpretation of the serene ballet Swan Lake. “BLACK SWAN...Stunningly poetic...What a violent interpretation of the serene swan lake...Bravo!!!!!!! In awe...Total respect (sic),” the actor posted on Twitter.
Looks like after the huge success of the movie internationally and awards galore, it’s picking up well with the Indian audiences as well.

A different take altogether

Mukta Arts Limited will be releasing two of its films in May 2011. Nauka Dubi, a film by acclaimed director Rituparno Ghosh, will release on May 6 while Love Express, a film by the graduates of Whistling Woods International, is slated for release on May 13. Love Express is a romantic entertainer directed by Sunny Bhambhani and stars Om Puri, Sahil Mehta, Mannat Ravi, Priyam Galav and Vikas Katyal. Nauka Dubi, which means boat-wreck, is a film based on celebrated author and poet Rabindranath Tagore’s famous short story of the same name. The film stars Raima Sen, Riya Sen, Prosenjit and Jishu Sengupta and will release in Bengali and Hindi. Gulzar will write the lyrics of the Hindi version on Tagore’s original music composed for the story.

Raking in moolah

Talk about Bollywood stars making lots of money. The latest to be added to the list of rich stars is ‘Ms Bare-It-All’ Mallika Sherawat, who is settled in the US and doesn’t want to return to India. Though the gorgeous woman is not doing any major Bollywood movies, she is still earning in millions. Ask how? The sultry siren will be appearing in three item songs in an Anees Bazmi film this year and has charged a whopping Rs 15 million per number. That’s some eye-popping news for sure!

What’s common between Cat and Kat?

As it was announced recently, Caterina Lopez, the cousin of international actress and pop star Jennifer Lopez, will be seen in a hot item number in the upcoming movie Bhindi Bazaar Inc. In order to shoot for this number, she was in B-town recently. However not many know that like her name, Caterina shares many things in common with Bollywood diva Katrina Kaif. Both of them made it big in Bollywood through the director Kaizad Gustad.

The famous film director and writer has directed the scintillating promotional music videos for Caterina’s debut song in Bollywood for Bhindi Bazaar Inc.  Kaizad is the same guy who also directed and promoted Katrina Kaif in his debut film Boom. Also, just like Katrina, Caterina is also falling in love with India and is thinking of making it her “second home”. Being a Shah Rukh Khan fan, she also aspires to make it big in Bollywood.
