‘Real Space’

An exhibition of original photographs of three of the best-known contemporary art photographers from Germany will be held at Chitrakala Parishat.

Called Real Space - Conceptual Space, it opens on March 11 and will continue till March 27.

Heidi Specker, one of the artists featured in the exhibition, will give a presentation of her work at the inauguration on March 11, 6.30 pm.

 Vivid display 

Apartment 5, an exhibition of paintings by Meenal Singh, will be on display till March 19 at Studio for Movement Arts and Therapies, 3 Curley Street, Richmond Road.


Abhas an exhibition of paintings and sculptures, will be on at Abstract Art Gallery, 8, Cunningham Road.  The exhibition will be on till March 12, between 10 am and 7 pm.

How long does it take to complete a circle? by Susanta Mandal will be on display at GallerySke, 2, Berlie Street, Langford Town till April 16. 

Creative world 

Gallery Sumukha and Rob Dean Art, London is presenting an exhibition called Dolls comprising paintings, sculpture, photography and new media of Ayisha Abraham, Barbara Ash, Archana Hande, Y Jayamma, Abir Karmakar, Pushpamala N, Jasmeen Patheja, Princess Pea, Anthony Roche, K T Shivaprasad, Surekha and Chintan Upadhyay.  The show will be held till March 19, 10.30 am to 6 pm at Gallery Sumukha, 24/10 BTS Depot Road, Wilson Garden.


‘Natarajotsava’ festival

SKILLFUL Charles MaKarnataka Nrityakala Parishat is holding its annual Natarajotsava Dance Festival on March 13,  4 pm at Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan. The highlight of the event will be Nritya Seva by Padmini Ravi, Sridevi Unni, Prabhavathi Shastry and Choodamani Nandagopal. This will be followed by bharatanatyam dance performances by the dancing couple Sunitha and Prashanth Shastry and Charles Ma.


Vocal treat

Sapthak is holding a music programme on March 12, 5.30 pm at Canara Union Hall, Malleswaram.

MELODIOUS Rekha Hegde On the occasion, Rekha Hegde Aravind and Milind Chittal will present vocal recitals.  Mihir Kalyanpur and T Ranga Pai will be on tabla and Sateesh Kolli will be on harmonium. 

Organ recital

Christopher Gray from Leicester, UK, will present an organ recital at St Andrew’s Church, Cubbon Road on March 13, 6 pm.


Dhruva Foundation, in association with Vasantharathna Foundation, is holding a musical tribute on April 8, 6 pm, which will have artistes from all over India performing Indian Jazz and Indian Contemporary Fusion Music Concert at Bangalore Gayana Samaja.

This will coincide with Vasantharatna’s 4th annual cultural event titled Salute

A contemporary music performance by Allegro Fudge will be held at Hard Rock Café, St Mark’s Road on March 10, 8.30 pm.

Carnatic feast

Sri Rama Lalitha Kala Mandira, Banashankari II Stage is holding Carnatic music concerts from March 16 to 18.

On March 16, 6 pm there will be a vocal duet music concert by Ranjani and Gayathri at Devagiri Sri Venkateshwara Temple, Banashankari II Stage. On March 17, 5.45 pm, a vocal duet concert will be presented by C Saroja and C Lalitha at Bangalore Gayana Samaja, K R Road. On March 18, 5.45 pm, there will be a vocal concert by Neyveli Santhana Gopalan at Bangalore Gayana Samaja. Entry is free.

Hindustani strains

A Hindustani vocal recital by Dattatreya L Velankar and accompanists will be held at the Bangalore International Centre Auditorium, Teri Complex, 4th Main, 2nd Cross, Domlur II Stage on March 18, 6.30 pm. For details, call 9886599675.

Memorial concert

Hindustani Sangeeta Kalakara Mandali, along with Gokhale Institute of Public Affairs, is organising D Krishnamurthy and Kamalamma Memorial Concert in the City on March 12, 6 pm. On the occasion, there will be a Hindustani vocal recital by Anuradha Kuber of Pune who will be accompanied by Vyasamurti Katti on harmonium and Keshav Joshi on tabla. The venue is Gokhale Institute of Public Affairs, near BMS College of Engineering, Bull Temple Road, N R Colony.

National Gallery of Modern Art, in collaboration with Maraa and Vikalp Bengaluru, is presenting Travelling Film South Asia Festival till April 10.

Street tour

The four-time motorbike stunt riding world champion, Chris Pfeiffer, is coming back to India, to wow the crowds at The Red Bull Chris Pfeiffer Street Tour 2011.
This will be held at Palace Grounds on April 6, 4 pm.

Feature films

On the occasion of Mois de la Francophonie (Francophonie month), documentaries and feature films will be screened on March 10, 15 and 17 at Alliance Francaise.

On March 10, 6 pm, Women are heroes by JR will be screened. The film plunges the spectator straight into the lives of exceptional women.

As part of the Swiss Film Festival – Moving Movies, films will be screened from March 15 to 17 at Alliance Francaise.

On March 15, Farewell My Mountain by Hugues De Wurstemberger and Didier Schmutz will be screened.

On March 16, Home by Ursula Meier and on March 17, Return to Gorée by Pierre-Yves Borgeaud (2006) will be shown.

On March 24, 7.30 pm, there will be a documentary film festival at the same venue.


As part of the Garma Garam Chai event, Dimetos, one of Athol Fugard’s lesser known plays, will be read.  Dimetos is a bitter-sweet tragedy written in 1975.  The reading will be held on March 19, 4 pm, Vibgyor, 71, Sona Towers, Miller’s Road.

‘Haaru Hakkiyanneri’

In memory of S Ramachandra Aithal, a cinematographer, Chitra Samuha and K V Subbanna Aptha Samuha are presenting a series of films by S Ramachandra in Chitra Varsha. On the occasion, there will be the screening of Kannada feature film Haaru Hakkiyanneri which has cinematography by S Ramachandra. Story, screenplay, dialogue and direction are by A N Prasanna. The screening will be on March 12, 6 pm and March 13, 3.30 pm at K V Subbanna Aptha Rangamandira, No 151, 7th Cross, Teachers’ Colony 1st Stage, near Dayananda Sagar College. This will be followed by discussion with the director and the other crew members.


Lights on

QTP will stage Nostalgia Brand Chewing Gum on March 11, 12 (8 pm) and March 13 (3 pm and 6.30 pm) at Jagriti Theatre, Whitefield.

Hindi play

Mashaal Theatre Group will present its latest Hindi production Hum Honge Naa Kaamyaab (inspired by O Henry’s short story Cop and the Anthem) at Ranga Shankara on March 22, 7.30 pm and March 23, 7.30 pm.

The play is written by Ashwini Kumar Chakre and Abhinav Kimothi and
directed by Abhinav Kimothi.

‘Kucch Bhi...’

The play Kucch Bhi Ho Sakta Hai, with Anupam Kher, will be staged at Chowdiah Memorial Hall on March 25, 7.30 pm.

‘Aadaddella Olithe?’

Kriyative Theatre is presenting the comedy, Aadaddella Olithe?, inspired by the humourous stories of T Sunanadamma.

The play is directed by Pramod Shiggaon and scripted by Sunder, who also plays the lead along with Laxmi Chandrashekar.

Others in the cast are Vidya Venkatram, Ramakrishna Kannarapadi and Shilpa Rudrappa.

‘Namma Metro’

WeMove Theatre will stage the play Namma Metro on March 12, 7 pm at Seva Sadan, 14th Cross, opposite MLA College, Malleswaram. It is written and directed by Abhishek Iyengar.  The cast includes Sri Harsha Grama, Rangaraj Bhatracharya, Nagashree D M and Hanu Ramsanjeev. Music direction is by Abhishek Narain.
