ZP gives impetus to health, drinking water

As usual, a big pie of the total expenditure (up to 64.61 per cent under planned expenditure) goes towards the salary of teachers, said J Sunitha Veerappa Gowda, president of the Zilla Panchayat, while presenting the budget here.

Reading out the draft budget, she said the ZP allocates ` 35.32 crore towards the mid-day meal scheme, a programme started to increase the enrollment in the schools.
The education sector will get an additional ` 2.17 crore for building class rooms under NABARD scheme and allocation to Sarva Shikshana Abhiyaan is increased to ` 14 crore from ` six crore.

On the health front, the draft outlay puts the planned expenditure at ` 18.14 crore and the non - planned expenditure at ` 53.74 crore. The AYUSH hospitals will get ` 3.86 crore from planned and non- planned expenditure.

Water supply

She said the ZP would spend ` 45.23 crores for the rural water supply and sanitation schemes. Last year, the allocation to this area stood at ` 19.21 crore.

An additional ` 2.65 crore will be allocated for the maintenance of pipelines and overhead water tanks. She added ` 4.15 crore will be spent on rural roads and bridges.

Agriculture

Sunitha said the Zilla Panchayat proposes to spend ` 3.3 crore for the agriculture sector under non - planned expenditure and ` 1.97 crore under the planned expenditure.

The social welfare department programmes would be getting  about `s 19.13 crore under the planned and ` 20.76 crore under non - planned expenditure, she disclosed.

The draft budget proposes ` 6.69 crore under planned and ` 9.21 crore under non-plan for the OBC and Minority department.

Woman, child welfare

The president said the spending on women and child welfare department will be approximately around ` 22.38 crores under the planned and non - planned expenditure put together.

Miscellaneous

“We propose to support the horticulture department and has increased the allocation. The total outlay for horticulture activities is ` 4.1 crore.

While, about ` one crore is allocated for pisciculture, ` 3.5 crore for social forestry, ` 41.83 lakh for water shed development and ` 4.9 crore to develop about 8327 hectare of the dry land in Mysore, Periyapatna and Hunsur taluks.

The ZP would spent about ` 110 crore for the III phase of the MGNREGS scheme, she said.
