'Tainted' professor gets bail; says he has been framed

Says colleagues plotted against him

Accompanied by advocate K N Shivakumar (on behalf of senior counsel C M Jagadish), Shivabasavaiah surrendered before the police in the morning.

The in-charge judge of Second JMFC Sridhar granted bail to the accused, against a surety of Rs 10,000.

Speaking to media, Prof Shivabasavaiah alleged that he is a victim of conspiracy hatched by his ‘good friends’ within the department.

“They (some colleagues) have executed the plan through the girl, who was under my guidance for the past few months,” he rued.

He also clarified that he was not absconding since the incident as reported by the media.
“I am still an accused, and charges are yet to be proved. I will accept the verdict, come whatever it is”, said Shivabasavaiah.

Permission needed

Assistant Commissioner of Police A K Suresh, who is the investigating officer for the case said Shivabasavaiah is booked under section 354 (Outraging modesty of a woman) of IPC and Vice-Chancellor Prof V G Talwar under section 107 (willful instigation) of IPC.

However, the permission of higher authorities (Governor H R Bhardwaj who is also the Chancellor of the University) of the accused, is a must to file a chargesheet, he added.
