Case against Ashoka in Lokayukta court

Last Updated 09 March 2011, 18:41 IST

The petition was filed under sections 420 and 406 of Indian Penal Code following a complaint by M Manjunath, a resident of Vijayanagar in Bangalore. The cases will come up for hearing on Thursday.

The complaint is about the denotification of land in the RMV Extension area. The Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) had acquired 23 guntas of land in 1978. Ashoka had bought 14 gunta in 2003 and 9 gunta in 2007 from 12 original owners. Manjunath in his complaint alleged that the Minister threw norms to winds by purchasing the land which had already been acquired before.

The complainant alleged that after Ashoka took oath as the Transport minister in 2009, he made original owners submit the applications and ensured the land was excluded from acquisition process. The minister’s step caused loss to the State Exchequer, he has stated in the complaint.
