Improve district performance in SSLC, ZP chief urges officers

The district is at 30th position in the State’s SSLC performance chart. Addressing the ZP progress review meeting here on Friday, Manjula asked the officials to chalk out the measures to be taken to enhance the district’s results.

The meeting elaborately discussed about lack of medicines at most of the primary  health centres in the district. The primary health centres in the district must be equipped with at least 120 types of medicines but the primary health centres in the district can provide only 30-40 types of medicines. The president sought to know why the PHCs are ill-equipped. At this, District Malaria Prevention officer S G Narayanswami said the government is not providing more than 40 types of medicines, hence the PHCs are not able to provide some of the medicines to patients.

He further said that earlier, Zilla Panchayat would invite the list of required medicines from the PHCs to be given to the Health Department. But with the centralised system in medicine supply, the PHCs are at the mercy of officials deciding on medicines in Bangalore. Health Commissioner has directed not to open new primary health centres in the district for another three years. Following this, a few PHCs opened recently are not functioning, pointed out Narayanswami.

Chief Executive Officer N Shantappa, vice-president G Somashekhara and Project officer Lakshminarayan were present.
