It’s not Ranveer versus Ranbir

There were recent rumours of the illustrious Chopra family being determined to build their newfound blue-eyed boy Ranveer Singh as a rival, competitor and strong alternative to Ranbir Kapoor. Apparently, Aditya Chopra had invited the hot and happening Ranbir to do Band Baaja Baaraat with Yash Raj as Aditya thought that would take Ranbir’s superstardom to another level. But when Ranbir, in all his inherited wisdom, politely declined the once-in-a-lifetime offer, the sensitive Adi was deeply wounded and as the rumour goes, he created Ranveer Singh, the star.
However, Aditya recently announced that he had never made such a statement. He issued a press release that stated, “We would like to reiterate that YRF has a very simple agenda — launch and work with new talent when needed and established talent if the script demands. This is not restricted only to actors but to all disciplines of the craft. It is our endeavour to nurture budding talent to achieve and go beyond their potential, while simultaneously respect and acknowledge those who have made their mark — Ranbir Kapoor definitely being one of them. It would be stupid for anyone to believe that this ethos of YRF is a petty minded intention to launch new talent to compete with someone.”

The naked truth

Artist M F Hussain, who is often embroiled in some controversy or the other, recently found himself in another one.

The 95-year-old artist has never been bashful about naming his muse from among Hindi cinema’s leading ladies.

But recent reports have suggested that he desired to paint Vidya Balan in the nude.

Hurt by these rumours, Hussain set the record straight. The artist, who became a citizen of Qatar, said, “I would never ever think like that. I have done several paintings of Madhuri Dixit but I have always captured her personality. I do not paint portraits in literal terms. I respect Vidya as an artiste and would never ask her or any artiste to pose nude for me.”

Theirs is a mutual admiration society

Shiamak Davar’s tryst with Indian cinema has made him a name to reckon. Redefining dance in Bollywood, the acclaimed choreographer has once again set the ball rolling with his new Game.  We are referring to the latest thriller directed by Abhiney Deo, starring Abhishek Bachchan, Kangana Ranaut and Sarah Jane Dias.

Game gave Shiamak a chance to work with Abhishek.  “Working with Abhi is always an unforgettable experience! He calls my dance company his bachas and we are all like one big family. He has tremendous style and attitude,” says an enthusiastic Shiamak. With his creative brilliance, Shiamak puts his heart and soul into each project.

“Shooting with Shiamak was an experience. He uses every inch of the sets. It is not only about the dance but also the graphic images,” feels Deo.  With complete support and cooperation, Shiamak insists that working in Game was truly an excellent experience. Matching steps with Abhishek in the song is actress Kangana Ranaut.

“Shiamak’s choreography is very distinct and international in its feel. It’s all about style. The song is a visual treat. He is not just a master choreographer but also a very good human being. I loved working with him and his dance company and look forward to working with him again,” said Kangana.

Shiamak also has always admired Kangana’s work and feels she has proven her acting prowess time and again.

Having choreographed a number of beauty queens like Aishwarya, Sushmita, Priyanka, Lara, Dia and Diana, Shiamak has always been mesmerised by their strong blend of beauty, brains and professionalism. Debutant Sarah-Jane Dias, who also is a former Miss India (2007), was just as Shiamak had expected — extremely disciplined and committed to work. Sarah “felt blessed” to have Shiamak instruct her on her first film. “Working with Shiamak was unforgettable. He made me feel the most confident,” said the actress.

Being taken seriously

LUCKY Deepal ShawWho would have thought that the girl, who started off with a sexy music video, would be taken quite seriously by all the film-makers?

The girl in question is none other than the dusky beauty Deepal Shaw, who began her career as the Baby Doll in a music video.

The sultry actress pleased her critics right from her debut film Kalyug and followed it up with power-packed performances in films like A Wednesday and Vikalp.

Deepal’s lucky streak continues as she will be soon be seen opposite Irrfan Khan in Bangkok Blues and in Tigmanshu Dhulia’s Sahib, Bibi Aur Gangster.

In Sahib, Bibi Aur Gangster, she is portraying the role that Waheeda Rehman had played in the classic Sahib, Bibi Aur Ghulam. Deepal is surely proving that she is much more than just a glamorous baby doll.

Leaving the director ‘power’less

Rajkumar Santoshi, the director of the upcoming film Power, seems to be losing out on all his cast, one actor at a time. It all began with Ajay Devgan, who walked out because the film had too many heroes. Now tired of playing the waiting game, Sanjay Dutt also decided to bow out of the film. Sanjay was tired of waiting for the film dates. In addition to Sanjay Dutt, the original star cast of the film had included Amitabh Bachchan, Ajay Devgan, Anil Kapoor and Amisha Patel. Sanjay’s schedule is very tight as he is busy with Rascals, the remake of Agneepath and the remake of Satte Pe Satta. So he had no choice but to opt out of the film.
