Plastic carry bags now come at a price

The committee will fix a reasonable price for plastic bags depending on their quality and size, BBMP Commissioner Siddaiah said on Monday.

“Once a price is fixed, people will not hesitate to pay for plastic carry bags,” he said.

The Palike Commissioner said BBMP would be responsible for ensuring no damage was caused to the environment. The Palike would set up collection centres for plastic waste by channelling recyclers and ensuring plastic was not burnt in the open.

With dry waste collection centres already in place, the BBMP has invited plastic manufacturers and retailers to use such centres as plastic waste collection points.

‘Plastic Day’

He said suggestions to have a ‘Plastic Day’ in schools and colleges to create awareness among children would be considered.

Separate bins for garbage collection, one for plastic waste and another for biodegradable waste, will be placed in important locations across the City for segregating garbage.
