In Karnataka, 6,964 families from 128 villages in Chintamani and Gudibande taluks of Chikkaballapur and Jagalur and Harappanahalli taluks in Davangere have been chosen.

The main objective of the organisation is empowerment of women through the formation of women’s self-help groups that will be financially supported by the organisation to take up revenue-generating ventures.

The organisation has decided to focus on promoting agriculture through organic farming techniques in the villages chosen in the State. Soil testing has been conducted in all the fields in the said villages and the organisation has been organising training programmes for farmers.

The farmers were also taken on field visits to areas that have adopted organic farming with the support of Sri Ramachandrapura mutt, Sri Kshetra Dharmasthala Rural Development Scheme and Purushotham Rao Organic Farming Prathisthana.

Along with the help of various government departments, farmers have been encouraged to set up units to produce vermicompost, biodigester, azolla, and nutritive tonic for plants (Jeevamrutha), apart from rearing of native breeds of cattle and units for seed treatment.

EED, an organisation from Germany, is extending financial assistance to DPG for executing the programme.

Recently, EED representatives Gerlind Schneider, Harikrishna and DPG’s Chief Executive Officer Bhaktar Soloman visited Dwarapalli village in Chintamani and visited the agricultural fields of Muniraju, who is growing cabbage, and Narasimhappa’s paddy field.

A total of 50 families have implemented organic farming techniques in their fields and have set up 15 vermicompost units, 15 azolla growing units and 12 farmers have been encouraged to rear native breeds of cattle.

During the visit, EED representatives interacted with the farmers and encouraged them to continue implementing organic farming techniques.
