'Cops' negligence reason for lockup deaths'

Speaking after inaugurating a workshop on Lockup death organised for the police personnel at Maitri Bhavan he said, “hundreds of police have sacrificed their lives for the society’s good. Many a times, Lockup death problems arise due to the negligence of the police.

Therefore, the police should work within the limits of the law,” he suggested.

Speaking on the occasion, SP Manjunath Annigeri claimed that mostly it is the negligent nature of the police which paves for lockup death cases. The police have to stop such incidents by strictly abiding by the law, he insisted. Meanwhile, he opined that the women, children and people with illness must not be made to stay back in the police station for a long time.Somwarpet DySP Jayaprakash termed lockup death incidents as shameful issue on the part of police. It is nothing but human right violation. The police must try their best to reveal the crime cases in the absence of force, he suggested.

The police personnel, staff from the police department and special investigation wing participated in the workshop.
