Dancing away to create a record

Over 2,000 people gathered at the banks of the Yarra River at the Moomba Cultural Centre, Melbourne to dance their way into the ‘Guinness Book of World Records’ for the ‘Largest Bollywood Dance’ attempt. There were much celebrations, tears and hugs all around once the record was successfully broken. Cheered on by thousands of revellers from all over the world, and from all walks of life, the huge crowd danced Australia into the record books to the chartbusting hit Munni Badnaam Hui, led by Munni (Malaika Arora Khan) herself. ‘Bollywood and Beyond 2011’ was supported by Moomba and Shiamak Davar International.

Fans, both young and old, and from all walks of life, also gathered at the iconic location to photograph and catch a glimpse of Bollywood sweethearts Malaika Arora Khan and husband Arbaaz Khan — the guests of honour at the event.

Says Malaika, “Honestly, I think it will be something I will always remember. It’s one of the most amazing moments of my life, both for being so far away from home but feeling the enthusiasm and love from the crowd. The atmosphere was so much fun and exciting with everyone waiting with baited breath to see if we had broken the record or not. The Indian Film Festival did a tremendous job organising the event so a big thank you to them and to the dancers from Melbourne who made it happen.”

Digging into some chocolate

Bollywood hottie Minissha Lamba has been breaking into a sweat very often of late.?She has been busy with some engagement or the other. Be it completing the dubbing for Bheja Fry 2 or performing at a film festival in Kuwait, the pretty woman has been going places. Not to mention shooting for the upcoming movie Joker in Chandigarh and then making an appearance at her mom’s art exhibition party. Looks like Minissha has been doing a lot of work indeed. However, Minissha’s friends were quite upset thinking she has no time for them.

So the actress decided to spend quality time with her friends in order to make them happy. She went for a movie with them and treated them to a chocolatey feast at a new place in Mumbai. Nothing sweetens the mood up, like a sweet tooth we say!

Onlookers eagerly watched Minissha give in to her cravings?— from ice creams to cakes — and enjoying her friends’ company without a care in the world. It was truly a much-needed break for the actress.

An avid photographer

The picturesque beauty of Varanasi revealed an old secret passion of Sunny Deol. Sunny was found capturing the beauty of Banaras while he was shooting for Dr Chandraprakash Dwivedi’s upcoming satire Mohalla Assi.

Not many are aware that Sunny has been a photographer for years now. During the shoot, whenever the actor wasn’t facing the camera, he was found capturing Banaras’ charm through his camera. With a camera dangling on his shoulder, he kept clicking whenever he found time in between his shots. He captured the various colours of Banaras, River Ganga, different ghats, sunrise, forts etc. A lot can be said about Banaras through his clicks.

Says a source from the sets of ‘Mohalla Assi’, “Whenever Sunny got a chance, he would start clicking pictures. Even as he was dressed in his character, he would keep clicking. Seeing Sunnyji so enthusiastic about photography was a rare sight.”

‘Playing Silk Smitha not difficult’

PRETTY Vidya BalanBollywood actress Vidya Balan, who essays the role of Silk Smitha in The Dirty Picture, says that portraying the southern seductress will not be a difficult job for her.

“I don't think it is difficult to portray a real-life character like Silk Smitha. People know her through her work, through films and songs,” said Vidya. However, the actress said it would be challenging to portray characters of prominent personalities.

“It would be challenging if I play a character based on Indira Gandhi as people know her mannerisms and you can’t go wrong for a person of this stature who was a prime minister. She continues to be a prominent and respectable person. Even in that case to play Amitabh Bachchan would be challenging,” she said.

“With Silk Smitha it is going to be more of my personal interpretation than her impersonation,” she added.

Portraying real-life characters is not a new thing for the Ishiqiya girl, who played Sabrina Lal in her previous film No One Killed Jessica.

In Milan Luthria 'The Dirty Picture', a biopic based on the life and death of Silk Smitha, Vidya would be seen in a  different avatar, alongside Emraan Hashmi, Tusshar Kapoor and Naseeruddin Shah.

The film is an ode to the life of the southern sexy siren Vijaylakshmi, better known as Silk Smitha, and her journey to stardom followed by her sudden demise, the actress said.

Shedding weight for a new look

Mahakshay Chakraborty, son of legendary actor Mithun Chakraborty, will be seen in a completely new avatar in Vikram Bhatt’s upcoming 3D film Haunted. Audiences will be pleasantly surprised to see Mahakshay’s refreshingly different look in Haunted and the credit for this goes to none other than his director, Vikram Bhatt.

Vikram, known as the master of horror films in Bollywood, seems to be leaving no stone unturned to make his most ambitious project a landmark film.

Not only has he hired some of the best technical talent to make Haunted a remarkable visual experience, but has also invested a lot of time and effort behind his lead pair.
Wanting to ensure an impressive relaunch for Mahakshay, Vikram made him follow a rigorous fitness regime to shed the extra kilos and look leaner than ever.

Mahakshay, who is obviously excited about his new film, happily followed his mentor’s advice and worked really hard to get that perfect look for the film.

Mahakshay was launched as Mimoh Chakraborty in his debut film Jimmy in 2008. From getting Mimoh to revert to his birth name Mahakshay and then reviving his personality, looks like there?is no stopping Vikram Bhatt from launching his lead actor with a bang.
