Auto drivers allege police atrocity; stage dharna

Two constables conducted themselves in an unruly manner with Rafiq Ahmed, an autorickshaw owner, who was waiting for passengers during late night hours of Thursday. The vehicle was seized in spite of production of vehicular documents and Ahmed was beaten with a lathi, the protesters alleged. They staged a dharna along by parking their vehicles in front of the DySP office for about 45 minutes and refused to budge until action was initiated against the erring constables.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Chalavadi, who arrived at the spot, assured of action against the constables. The protesters, however, warned that they will stop plying autos if no action was taken within two days.
