'Good journalism matters today'

Delivering the valedictory address at the national conference on ‘New Media and National Development,’ he said: “Good journalism will straddle both print media as well as new media”. Content will be king, and good reporting will be recognised and it doesn’t matter whether the story appears in print, or on the internet, or on the iPad, he added.

He said India was far behind in the development of new media. He said newspapers in the US were floundering, while in Europe they were doing slightly better than the US.

“However, in India, print media has seen unprecedented growth in circulation and readership especially the language press with some of them registering double digit growth in the last two years”, he added.

Principal Secretary e-governance M N Vidyashankar said the time taken for volume of information to double was increasingly getting shorter. He said the e-governance department was working with Bangalore University to provide a tamper-proof system of delivering question papers.
