“The Corporation was making a loss of Rs 68 crore when I took over as its president, seven months ago. The number of members had dwindled from one lakh to 12,000. However, with the Corporation registering a profit of Rs 4.60 crore, the loss has now come down to Rs 63.40 crore,” said the chairman of the Corporation M D Lakshminarayan.
Addressing a press meet here on Sunday, he said, there are an estimated 25,000 shelterless weavers in the State, and sought that the financial assistance for housing project should be increased to at least Rs 60,000.
Nationalised banks should disburse loans at 3 pc to weavers and the government has been requested to pay wages to weavers in accordance with provisions of NREGA, he said.
