Delectable vocal duet

Sri Rama Lalithakala Mandira presented a three-day music festival, last week. The serene atmosphere of the Devagiri Srinivasa Temple inspired Ranjani and Gayathri to rise to great heights and cast a spell on the large gathering.

The invocatory piece 'Sharanu Siddi Vinayaka' held out hopes of a delectable programme. It is always a good experience to listen to that delightful composition "Therateeyagarada" of Tyagaraja, in the raga Gowli Panthu.

After a composition of Annamachar (Indiranamamu), Saramathi was rendered with good feeling, for "Mokshamugalada". 'Sri Venkatesha Giresham' of Deekshitar, was also a good choice.

Then the sisters plunged into the climax of the concert, in the 'Pankaja Lochana', the well known composition, in the raga Kalyani, with their mellifluous voice, which has melody, lilt and verve. Sloka and the devotional "Hey Govinda Hey Gopala" was also pleasing.

H N Bhaskar on the violin gave ample support while the percussion duo H S Sudhindra (mridanga) and Narayana Murthy (ghata) fulfilled the needs of the occasion.

Promising artiste

Vrinda Acharya, who gave a vocal recital for the Bangalore Lilithakala Parishat, is a disciple of Neela Ramgopal. She has passed the proficiency examination in distinction and has also won prizes in few competitions. In the current concert on Friday, Vrinda Acharya chose a variety of compositions of different composers like Purandaradasa, Tyagaraja, Narayana Theertha. The 'Jayajaya' gave her a bright start and 'Kanta Judami', a gem from the treasure chest of Saint Tyagaraja, with good Nerval (Alanadu Soumithri Paadaseva) was also impressive. Te 'Chitteswara' of 'Paridana michithi' also caught the attention of the listeners. She revelled in the alap of Saveri, more so in the expansive presentation of Purandaradasa's "Baraiah Venkataramana Bhakthara Nidhiye".

She has good voice and sings with involvement and can reach great heights with some more stage experience. Mysore Sateesh on violin and ASN Swamy on mridanga, supported the vocalist with good understanding. Vrinda concluded her concert with a devaranama (Aariddarenaiah), a Thillana and Mangala (Mannaru Krishnage).
