In a statement on Sunday, the CPM has also asked the Indian government to demand a review of the UN Security Council Resolution authorising military action against Libya and the creation of a no-fly zone over the country. It also calls for a halt to the military action until the review is over.
Five members of the Security Council, including India, had abstained from voting on the resolution. "The military strikes by Nato forces comprising France, Britain and the United States are a dangerous act of aggression. The Nato is now repeating what it did in Iraq, which led to the death of millions of people and large-scale destruction. Already 48 people are reported dead in the attacks on the first day," said the party.
The CPM said military action is a violation of Libya's sovereignty and a calculated action in an internal conflict to bring about a regime change. "The hypocrisy of the Western powers can be seen in their connivance with the Saudi military intervention to crush the popular and peaceful revolt in Bahrain," the party said.
