Moily's two-page apology pacifies Lokayukta

Law minister blames media for controversial remarks

Speaking on the sidelines of an event organised by State Bank of Mysore, he said: “He expressed his regret and if a Union Minister says he is wrong, then it is not right to pursue it.”

Misreporting

He further said Moily attributed the controversial remarks to misreporting by the media.
Hegde claimed that Moily did not want their relationship to be soured and had asked the Lokayukta not to pay heed to what was reported in the media.

Statement soon

The Lokayukta also said he would shortly release a statement informing the public about the different ways the Lokayukta had helped the people and the work it had done.

Earlier in his speech, he spoke about the money stashed away in Swiss banks and the government’s inaction in recovering it. He said: “The matter is now with the law and I have doubts about its competence.”

Hegde also hit out at the lack of auditing in various Central government schemes, saying in 2007-08, about Rs 51,000 crore was unaccounted for in eight government schemes like drinking water programme, Integrated Child Development Scheme and Gram Sadak Yojana among others.
