Shoot-out: Beththangere cousins to be produced before court today

Armed cops escorting Shankara and Manja currently lodged in Dharwad and Belgaum jails respectively left for the city on Tuesday.

Balaji Rao alias ‘Tibet’ who shot at Beththangere Seena, a cousin of Shankara and Manja, at Central Prisons of Mysore here on March 10, using a country-made gun in his possession, had stated before the police that he had acted at the behest of the duo-Shankara and Manja. Following this, Mandi Police who are investigating into the incident had sought body warrant from the court to bring the two to Mysore for questioning. Granting the permission, the court said they should be produced on March 23. The cops have decided to seek their custody.

Balaji who had been taken to three day custody on March 14, proved no help to the police, as he stuck to his statement that he had received the gun from Prem who had been sent by two other accused cousins.

Rescued from flesh trade

A 20-year-old girl from Mumbai was rescued from immoral trafficking here on Tuesday.
Following an information, Nazarbad Police led by Inspector K C Poovaiah raided a house in Papanna Layout and took four that included two each of men and women into their custody. During interrogation, the said girl told the police that she was brought to the city by the woman, the prime accused in the case. The girl was sent to Shaktidhama, a home for destitute women, while the remaining were sent to judicial custody.

Youth dies

A 25-year-old youth admitted for burns at K R Hospital on March 18, succumbed on Tuesday.

The deceased has been identified as Sarjid Ahmed son of Ashfaq Ahmed, Ramabainagar. An autorickshaw driver by profession, Sarjid had suffered burns in a freak mishap at his house on the day. South Police have registered a case.

Boy missing

A 13-year-old boy is missing from Udbur in Jayapura hobli in the taluk since December last.

According to the police, Mahesh son of Lokesh, a student of eighth standard left for school on that day only not to return. However, he had been spotted near a resort on Manandavadi Road, by one of his villagers. Finders if any may contact South Police on 2444955.
