Not on top anymore Diva : Madhuri Dixit

In 2003, Antara Mali acted in a film called Main Madhuri Dixit Banna Chahati Hoon. Now Madhuri Dixit seems to be saying Main Kat/ Bebo/ PC Banna Chahati Hoon! Madhuri, a superstar of the 90s, is currently in her 40s and has been demanding the same price as the current top actresses of B-Town, that is over five crore.

Her last hit Devdas, released over eight years ago and also starred Aishwarya Rai and Shah Rukh Khan. She is still a great star no doubt, but according to the industry insiders, no film-maker in his right sense will pay her so much.

Trade analysts opine, “Though she does have the fan base, she is not a top actress anymore. She has been out of the industry and the kind of roles she can do are limited. She should learn from super star Amitabh Bachchan, who is not demanding the prices of Aamir, Salman, Akshay or SRK.”

Quite an eye-opener

Juhi ChawlaActress Juhi Chawla, who plays the role of a Kashmiri pandit in Onir’s
social drama I Am, says she was overwhelmed her visit to the Valley to shoot the movie in the winter of 2009.

The film is a tale of four stories woven together that takes the audience through
issues and dilemmas that bruise the modern Indian society.

Juhi is a part of I Am Megha, a Kashmiri pandit, forced to flee her home. She returns to the Valley after almost two decades, livid and cynical, only to find that her Muslim friend is no better off.

The star says she was shocked at the kind of captivity locals were restricted to thanks to the fear of terror.

“It made the trauma of Megha and others like her so real. Being a mother of two young children, it made me realise how blessed we are to have the freedom of choice and movement that we take so much for granted,” the actress says. Sanjay Suri and Onir’s I Am releases on April 22.

Setting new trends

Getting back to his action space, the introductory scene of the sequel to the comic riot will have Akshay Kumar fight villains in the freezing cold for a whole ten minutes. No other Bollywood film has been shot there before thanks to the climate and permissions but leave it to producer Sajid Nadiadwala to go all out for a film and do the impossible.

Confirms director Sajid Khan, “Yes, I’m shooting Akshay’s introductory action sequence for Housefull 2 in Antarctica. It’s the coldest place in the world. Only documentaries have been shot there. God willing, Housefull 2 will be the first feature to be shot in that continent.”

In addition to this, Housefull 2 will possibly be the first Bollywood movie to shoot at NASA’s Weightlessness Programme. The only other movies to have been shot there were Apollo 13 in 1995 and Armageddon in 1998.

While working on the script director Sajid Khan conceptualised a crucial comic sequence wherein actors Akshay Kumar, John Abraham, Riteish Deshmukh and Rahul Khanna were required to be suspended in the air. Says Sajid Khan, “It is not the climax but is significant to the plot. Usually, we have actors swinging from cables that are digitally removed later.”

“But in this case, I wanted them to cross each other and that’s not possible with wires because they would get entangled.”

The director is confident of his producer Sajid Nadiadwala, who is currently in the process of finalising the two day shoot somewhere between July and September. “Sajid (Nadiadwala) got Sylvester Stallone to make an appearance in Kambakkht Ishq (2009). I know he will get permission from NASA too,” adds Sajid Khan
