Nine bonded labourers freed in Hosahudya

The rescued labourers are Kadarappa of Bogenahalli, his wife Gangamma, his sons Ramanji, Gangaraju, daughters Narasamma, Ramalakshmi, daughter in-law Shyamala, son in-law Imran and Basheer.

Two other bonded labourers Ram Reddy and Lakshmamma managed to escape. They were forced to work as bonded labourers as they failed to repay a loan of Rs 17,000 to Narayanaswamy, owner of the brick kiln.

According to the Assistant Commissioner P Vasanth Kumar on a tip-off a raid was conducted on the  brick kiln and the nine labourers were rescued.

The zilla panchayat will pay a temporary compensation of Rs 1,000 to the rescued and in coming days they will be provided with shelter and other basic amenities, the officer said.

Ratnamma, Convener of Jeeta Vimukti-Karnataka Sanghatane, Manjunath, Narayana-
swamy, Gopal, Murthy, Sub Inspector of police Muni Reddy, Revenue Inspector G T Munikrishna and others were present on the occasion.
