Officials search Raja aide's house in Perambalur

With the district election officials at Perambalur receiving a call that money meant to bribe voters for the coming Assembly elections was allegedly kept at the residence of Aruvichelvan, an aide of DMK MP Raja, a flying squad headed by a local thasildar rushed to conduct a search.

Official sources at Perambalur confirmed on Wednesday that a search was conducted at Aruvichelvan’s house, but the official team was initially refused entry by angry DMK men.

The EC flying squad, which included an income-tax officer, were blocked by the DMK men in front of Aruvichelvan’s house. Later, they relented, when the officials explained that they were there  to check the veracity of the information. After a  search at Raja’s aide’s home, neither cash nor any incriminating document was found, sources said.

As the news of this episode, alongside others from various districts of “undue checks and searches” on vehicles spread, , the DMK patriarch on Tuesday night came down heavily on the EC for imposing “unreasonable and excessive restrictions.”
