'Technology makes farmers better managers'

He was speaking after releasing ‘Readings in Agri-Business Management’, a book, at B N Bahadur auditorium here on Saturday, under the banner of Institute of Development Studies, University of Mysore.

Deshpande said that the food production was sufficient till 80’s. However, in the following years, discouraging reasons resulted in the fall of agrarian activities that gradually had a profound impact on the production.

Saying that the farmers could adopt technology to be abreast of happenings, Deshpande said ‘by making use of internet the farmers can either sell or purchase the produce, besides knowing the prevailing market price and several other related issues’.

That apart, there is an urgent need of making ryots understand the basics of commerce and also inventions in the realm. A group of people who could be entrusted with the task of honing farmer’s skill, is also to be founded, he added.

Deshpande exhorted for including the released book authored by Devaraj and Anurag Bhatnagar as text book for management students.
