More than just cricket

Learning process

excited Gaurav Kapur, Yudhishtir and Archana Vijaya. Fresh faces Gaurav Kapur, Archana Vijaya and Yudhishtir Urs are out to capture all that’s happening in IPL and around IPL, tickling a funny bone or two all the time.

These youngsters have been working really hard at mastering their facts, who’s who in the cricketing arena, which player is in which team and what their background is. With no room to fumble, commit any error or even slip-up, they say it is challenging to keep the humour soaring 24/7.  Metrolife caught up with the three young people who were more than excited to share their cricketing experiences and talk about what got them hooked to cricket.

Gaurav Kapur, who has been hosting similar shows for almost a decade, says it’s more challenging with every new game. “The game is popular with the young and people want to be updated with the latest in cricket, about the cricketers and it’s the small little things around IPL that also interest people,” reasons Gaurav. He says it’s a carnival of sorts.

Archana, who has been hosting neo cricket for the last four years, says she’s still familiarising with the new IPL format. “It’s a craze out here in India and it’s hard to meet people’s expectations. We’re deputed on the ground and we’ll have to capture all the action that is happening around the field,” says Archana.

She adds, “The players have all been moved around and as a host one must be sure which player belongs to which team and who is shifted where. The facts must be on my finger tips. I can’t afford to falter.”

Talking about his experience, Yudhishtir confesses that he is no expert in cricket but has done a lot of background work. “It’s a learning process at every step. It’s totally new ground for me and I am still studying the sport. Familiarising with the players will take a while but nevertheless it’s a great experience,” he says.

The character of a commentary box in this year’s IPL will be extended to include cheerleaders who will do their bit to spruce up the atmosphere, there will also be a live band that will perform and a celebrity will be brought in to talk about the sport. The title song has been reworked by musicians Sajid and Wajid who’ve added their own little twist to the song.
