'Release Rs 40 crore'


DCC Vice-President Ivan D’Souza stated in a memorandum submitted to the state Governor that roads, houses and agriculture fields worth more than Rs 50 crore were damaged due to rains in the district.

He said that residents who lost their houses due to rain and flood should be given an adequate compensation for its reconstruction. Kin of those who died due to rain havoc should be given atleast Rs 3 lakh as compensation and the farmers who lost their agricultural produce should be compensated based on the market price, he added.

DCC will hold protest against the government if the demands were not met, D’Souza warned. The memorandum was handed over to in-Charge Deputy Commissioner Prabhakar Sharma on Monday.
