Sajid NadiadwalaGetting bigger and better

After producing movies for close to two decades, Sajid Nadiadwala has turned writer with ‘Housefull 2’, the upcoming sequel of ‘Housefull’. The producer had also contributed to the main story of the original movie, which starred Akshay Kumar, Riteish Deshmukh, Deepika Padukone, Lara Dutta among others. “It’s all about getting hold of a beautiful idea and taking it forward. For ‘Housefull 2’, I got this idea and wanted it to translate on the big screen. That’s the reason why we decided to start shooting earlier as I felt that the sequel would be a good entertainer,” said Nadiadwala. However, he has also entrusted the responsibility to a team of writers. “Yes, there is a team working on it.

I am mainly there to write any additional screenplay,” he says. “I have contributed to my earlier movies like Jeet, Judwaa and Mujhse Shaadi Karogi as well. This time, I was also associated with a set of writers who know their job really well.” Meanwhile, as a producer, Nadiadwala’s entire concentration is on bringing ‘Housefull 2’ and ‘Kick’ on floors with the former all set for a May start. “I am not scared at all. I am closely working on the film’s writing. I truly believe that it would exceed people’s expectations. Moreover the story is far more complicated and amusing this time around.”

‘Housefull 2’ stars John Abraham, Mithun Chakravorty, Asin, Zarine Khan, Jacqueline Fernandes and Rahul Khanna while Akshay Kumar and Riteish Deshmukh reprise their roles. Rishi and Randhir Kapoor play brothers in the film. “It’s been great fun for me  and the team. Also, the film has a lot of action which further adds on to its scale.” ‘Housefull 2’ is eyeing a summer 2012 release.

Sporty: Randeep HoodaA common passion

Zahan Kapoor, the grandson of the legendary actor Shashi Kapoor and the son of ad film-maker Kunal Kapoor, and actor Randeep Hooda share a love for horseriding. In fact, Zahan is one of the youngest polo players to ace at one goal matches.

Explains Randeep, “Rajputs take to horses like fish to water. My taking to polo in big way was only natural. Today, polo is not just restricted to the royalty and the Indian Army, many companies and firms too patronise the sport. The superb synchronisation between man and his horse, the amazing speed, the brute power with the backdrop of green arena makes polo the most exclusive and glorious sport of all requiring mental and physical strength. Even if you do not get the chance to play, there is every chance of being able to watch the sport as an observer — which is almost as good as playing. There is something extremely satisfying about watching men on their horses as they pursue the ball with their sticks with skill and adroitness.”

Zahan Kapoor, who loves swimming and football, considers himself a natural rider. “I have fallen from the horse several times. It’s scary sometimes but then I keep working hard and I love the sport too much to let anything affect me. I want to become a polo player and I am currently working hard to build my ranking so that I can play matches in future.”

Just for the record, Randeep Hooda owns six horses and is the only Bollywood actor who regularly participates in professional riding events.

He has even won awards at two equestrian events in Mumbai and Delhi respectively, where he participated along with riders from the Indian Army.

Winning praises

Onir’s ‘I Am’ was screened as the closing film of the Melbourne Beyond Bollywood Film Festival and was a huge success.

During the question and answer round, a member of the audience said, “When I bought the ticket for 20 dollars, I thought it was highly priced. But after seeing the film, I am willing to pay double the amount.” Popular actress, Juhi Chawla who plays a pivotal role in the film, was also seen at the festival. She was appreciated for her work and posed with the fans for  photographs.

Sweet: Mahi GillReliving the good old days

Most people reminisce about the days gone by, especially those of school and college. But few get the opportunity to relive those days.

Actors Arunoday Singh and Mahi Gill are two such lucky people. The two actors are currently shooting in the plush locales of the Indian Business School in Hyderabad for their upcoming film — ‘Buddha In A Traffic Jam’, directed by Vivek Agnihotri. The actors are not only living on the campus like other students, but are also taking management classes with them.

Their names are on the register and whenever they get some time off, they attend classes.

Sources from the unit claim that they are having a lot of fun with the students and have made quite a few friends too.

So we won’t be surprised if we see them getting their MBA degrees soon.

Comic: Vinay Pathak and Lara Dutta. Much to her horror!

Guess what Lara Dutta fears the most? No, it’s not daredevil stunts or highly dramatic emotional scenes — it is cockroaches. “Even the sight of a cockroach sends shivers down her spine,” says a source. So imagine Lara’s horror when she had to do a scene with a cockroach for her maiden venture Chalo Dilli. “Lara was petrified,” said the source.

The situation got worse when a unit member played a prank on her. “A crew member threw a plastic cockroach on her. And Lara, who otherwise is strong and controlled, got so scared that she practically jumped and ran helter-skelter screaming on top of her lungs. It was a side of Lara we had never seen before,” laughed our source.

Produced by Eros International in association with Big Daddy Productions (owned by Globosport) and Bheegi Basanti production, Chalo Dilli is a light-hearted film that brings together Lara Dutta and Vinay Pathak for the first time.
