Last Updated 20 July 2009, 19:29 IST

D M Puttegowda (Cong) pointed out that there was no proper maintenance of water drains along the side of the road, and this was causing damage to the road.

He complained that even with the new technique, the road had already collapsed in some areas.

The other problem, he said which had to be addressed was the overloading of lorries, which contributed to the poor state of the road.

Motamma (Cong) said that the safety walls on the side of the road had to be retained as removing them would prove dangerous to the drivers.

In his reply, Minister for Public Works Department, C M Udasi agreed for a joint inspection of the area at the earliest.

The deteriorated sections of Charmadi Ghat road were being repaired using a new technology called soil nailing technique to preserve the roads better, he added.
