Mature Role

Experimenting: Kangana RanautA perfect example of this is Kangana Ranaut, who by playing a spirited young girl in ‘Tanu Weds Manu’, showed the audience that she can do more than just portray roles of depressed and disturbed women.

“I was waiting to break free and when ‘Tanu Weds Manu’ was offered to me, I knew this would be a perfect opportunity for me to show another side of me,” Kangana tells

Post the success of the film, Kangana says that she suddenly found herself surrounded by scripts with similar characters.

“This time I had to be careful since I didn’t want to be typecast again. As an
actress, my aim is to reach out to a large audience. Till ‘Tanu Weds Manu’, my fan base mainly comprised adults, but now it has extended to even young children, which is a great feeling,” she says.

In the City to promote her latest film ‘Game’, Kangana says that it was the challenge that made her take it up.

“My role was initially written keeping a guy in mind but then they felt that it would be better if a woman portrayed it,” says Kangana, who plays the role of a detective for the first time.

The role was also an eye-opener for the actress who met real women officers and observed them at work as part of her research.

“I used to think women officers are very stern and rough but after meeting these officers I realised how normal they actually are in real life.

It only made it easier for me as I didn’t have to pretend to be this ‘typical’ detective.
At the same time, it was hard for me because I was playing a role of a 30-something-officer and the role required a more mature approach,” says she.

With films like ‘Rascals’, ‘Happy New Year’ and ‘Double Dhamaal’ in her kitty, Kangana says that she now wants to work in love stories and maybe even try out an
action flick.

And while she has worked with an array of directors and actors Kangana feels that
she still has a long way to go in the industry and just before she signs off, the actress even comes up with a wishlist of people she wants to work with in future.

“There are so many people I am waiting to work with. Out of them Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Aamir Khan and Salman Khan are some of them,” she says.
