Providing jobs to all is a biggest challenge faced by the governments. There are lot of instances many of the established governments were overthrown by angry unemployed youths in several countries in the world.

The elected representatives often face a herculean task to look after the interest of the youths, unemployed besides the voters. Infact, at ward number seven in the city, represented by corporator Purushottam, who is also former mayor, unemployed youths are high in number.

Majority of the youths demand jobs so that they can support their families better. The youths who have passed SSLC, degree, post graduation, diploma, ITI and other job oriented courses are found in majority in Ashokpuram, thanks to the access to schools and institutes which are offering vocational training courses, are without any jobs to suit their qualification.

Every other day, the former mayor comes face to face with youths to find a suitable job.

Areas between Ashokpuram 1 cross and 9th cross, Krishnamurthypuram 1 st cross to 7th cross, K R Vanam, Sarada Villas College road, CKC college road and Nanjumalige parks come under the ward limits. There are 12,000 voters with a total population of 30,000.

People from scheduled caste, pourakarmikas and other daily wage workers dominate Ashokpuram. While, upper and middle class people reside in Krishnamurthypuram and other areas.

Though efforts made by the elected representatives to find solution to the growing unemployment problem is to make them self employed by providing training in tailoring classes, agarabathi making, computer applications and other classes, unemployment problem still dominates in below poverty line Ashokapuram areas.

Drinking water woes

Mahadevamma, of Ashokpuram and residents of Krishnamurthypuran had complaints of irregular supply of drinking water.

The oldest residential layouts like Krishnamurthypuram, Ashokpuram face severe scarcity of water. However, the residents of the ward are heaving a sigh of relief as drinking water woes are set to end soon due to implementation 24X7 water supply programme.

The Mysore City Corporation and Karnataka Urban Water Supply Board (KUWSSB) had already intensified the pipeline works to provide 24 hours of water supply and work is in progress.

Just as it happens in old residential areas, some of the residents have encroached the foot path and constructed the houses in some areas of Ashokpuram without any check from Civic authorities.

The corporator claims he has made efforts to improve this park at the cost of Rs 16 lakh. Besides, he also took steps to maintain Gopalaswamy Park near Nanjumalige.
Noted educational institutions like Sarada Villas, CKC Convent, Gopalaswamy, Bhagini Seva Samaj and Siddartha Government Primary School are located in this ward.
