JOIN USMarriage of Shruti, who is barely a teenager at 13, a student of 8th standard was to take place with Ravikumar (29) of Santhebachahalli. An anonymous caller had tipped off about the same to the officers at the department, and also that the girl was against this marriage.
Deputy Director of the Department Vimala, with the help of local police, arrived at the wedding venue on Thursday and successfully stalled the illegal marriage from taking place. She also took to task the Anganwadi worker and other officers for failing to provide information on an event of such magnitude.
Just as Shruti reclaimed her life as a teenager, the girl’s parents and the groom were counselled by Tahsildar Dr H L Nagaraju. He recorded the statement of all the parties concerned that they would not indulge in such illegal act in the future, in writing as well.
