"We have all seen and read Malgudi Days and it is so ethnic and Indian at heart. Joy's creations are also very traditional, but has a contemporary edge," said Sharmila, who was clad in a red and brown saree teamed with metallic jewellery.

The designer's collection comprised of sarees, churidars and kurtas in earthy tones of brown, red and green and there was ample use of Indian fabrics. Some of the models wore a 'topi' similar to the khadi ones of the Gandhian era.

"Malgudi Days, for me is all about nostalgia and I have tried to translate that on the ramp. I have brought in a new thing as the anarkali sarees. There is a lot of embroidery work and the outfits look aesthetically beautiful," said Mitra.

Sharmila, who walked the ramp for Ritu Kumar last year, said she loved wearing the saree by Mitra as the nine yards is her preferred garment.

"I usually wear sarees and I love this one by Joy. its elegant, beautiful and definitely a fashion statement," said Sharmila. The 66-year-old actress said she wears sarees depending on her mood.

"I am going for more ethnic these days. I wear cotton ones in the Delhi summer, and wear silks in the evening," she added.
