“Nee Illade was a disaster for me. There was so much expectation from me and from this film because the story was really good but when I saw it on screen, I was let down. I trusted the director to make a good film but there is only so much one can do as an actor. The rest depends on the director who should know how to exploit his actors on screen and how he presents the film,” Raghu says.

But the failure of the movie has not bogged down Raghu completely. He is still positive about his next few releases and believes that while a good script is a priority, so is a good director. “I am not saying that I am such an established actor that I can differentiate between a good and a bad director. With every film, I learn something new and I will take this experience as a learning process as well. I don’t think I will shun off new directors from now on but I will definitely think twice next time and take a call when the opportunity arises,” he says.

The actor will be seen in a love triangle with Kiran Srinivas and Rekha in Prema Chandrama. Though being a woman-centric film, Raghu says that there is a lot of scope for him as well. “This a whole new experiment for me. My role has a dual shade. While I was a very jovial person in the first half, certain circumstances change me into a different person altogether in the second half,” he says while adding, “The movie has a strong message and meaning that is relevant in today’s times.” Raghu has also completed his portion in Panchamrutha, a movie that has six short stories strung together. “This again is an experimental project that has a huge starcast and hopefully the audience would enjoy it,” he says.

Having done his share of experimental projects, Raghu feels it’s time he tries out some lighter roles. “I am in talks with a director who has just completed filming a movie with Ramesh Aravind. We are planning on a light film with the typical masala elements but nothing is finalised yet,” he says.
