The midsize variant Ford Ikon was introduced in India in 1999 and went on to become one of Ford India's largest selling models.

Last year, the company said the BS IV variant of Ikon would not be produced and that the BS III variant would be available only in Tier II and III cities.

"We have ceased production of Ikon," Ford India Managing Director Michael Boneham told reporters at the sidelines of a function here.

Asked if production would be continued for delivering vehicles to Tier II and III locations as the Ikon was very popular with tourist operators, he said they were not producing the model any longer at the plant near Chennai.

Ikon was introduced with a ROCAM engine in the petrol variant. Later a diesel variant was introduced with the TDCi engine. Ikon Flair CNG variant was also introduced in the domestic market at select cities last year.

Ford India also introduced the Ford Fiesta classic, prior to the expected global launch of the model worldwide later this year.

Ford India currently manufactures Figo, Fiesta Classic and premium SUV Endeavour at their manufacturing facility in Maraimalai Nagar near Chennai.
