The girls had demanded adequate number of text books for the preparation of an exam of stitching course but instead the head mistress Sangeeta Meena allegedly slapped them several times.

When the matter was brought to the attention of authorities by locals last week, the district administration put the head mistress and warden Ranjana Jain under APO (awaiting posting orders) status, an official said.

"The girls of class 6 to 8, who are enrolled in a correspondence course of stitching, were demanding text books for the preparations of examinations scheduled to begin after a few days," Kamlesh Sharma, district education officer- elementary, Dausa, said.

"The books were to be delivered by postal department to the school but it was delayed and the head mistress arranged six books from others schools.

Out of the six books, she distributed five books among 30 girls in the school and allegedly gave one book to the daughter of the chairman of the management committee at her house.

Girls studying in the residential school objected to the decision and demanded the book back from the head mistress following which the head mistress slapped them on April 2," he added.
