New veterinary colleges to overcome vet doctors shortage

The government proposed to start start diploma courses for SSLC passed students and PUC so they could be trained and deployed in veterinary hospitals in rural areas, where shortage of doctors has been felt, he told reporters here.

Karnataka currently faces a shortage of 700 doctors and the demand for setting up veterinary hospitals in rural areas has been growing, he said.

The four veterinary colleges of Bangalore, Bidar, Hassan and Shimoga were also hit by shortage of students for the five year degree courses in Veterinary sciences, he said, adding that similar was the fate of Dairy Science college in Gulbarga.
