CWC prevents 41 kids from going to Bidar

Last Updated 08 April 2011, 16:38 IST

The children were being accompanied by a nun and an assistant. As all the children were from Bidar, they were returning to their native for vacation when the incident occurred.

It was said that Bajrang Dal activists had complained to the department of Women and Child Welfare on the illegal trafficking of the children and conversion of the children.

When Deccan Herald contacted Women and Child Welfare department Deputy Director Shakunthala, she said “the girl children will be shifted to Mangala Sevashram in Kuttar and the remaining have been shifted to Remand Home in Bondel.”

She said the department received a complaint from Bajrang Dal members that the children have been converted by the convent authorities.  Though the officials said that the centre was not registered under the JJ Act, it was later found that the centre had already initiated the process on April 7 itself.

Assistant Commissioner Prabhulinga Kavalikatta said that a fax has been sent to the Bidar Deputy Commissioner to assertain the details about the kids. At the same time, no case has been registered against anybody as the Ashram run by Stella Mary’s convent is monitored by the BCM department, and nothing against law has been found,he said.

Meanwhile, in a late night development, all the kids have been returned to the Ashram, said CWC Chairperson Asha Nayak.

Extended

The department has extended the time to register institutions till April 30 to facilitate the orphanages to register under the Act.

“Youth Social Service Charitable Trust run by Lancelot Pinto or shelter home at Haleyangadi too had failed to put up a board in their premises,” Shakunthala said.
