Gillespie roped in as Kings XI Punjab coach

Last Updated 09 April 2011, 11:48 IST

The last-minute move to rope in Gillespie has come on the recommendations of new Kings XI captain Adam Gilchrist and coach Michael Bevan, both being former Australian cricketers.
"Bevo (Bevan) and Adam Gilchrist as captain have been working hard to have someone work with their bowlers, which is nice of them,"  Gillespie was quoted as saying by The Advertiser.

"I spoke to Bevan Wednesday night and he was keen to have me over there. It is just a matter of having a simple yet effective game plan, go out and do a job and I am there to help."

"I have made a decision to give it a crack and see where it takes me and opportunities like this don't come along every day so I thought I had better take it," he said.

The 35-year-old arrived here a few day ago after a coaching stint with Zimbabwe T20 franchise MidWest Rhinos. He left for India Saturday to join with the squad.

Gillespie, in his playing days, shared the new ball with Glen McGrath and went on take 259 wickets in 71 Tests.
He also took 142 wickets in 91 One-day Internationals.
