A bridge over stormwater drain in PC Layout, Kolar is a classic case of shoddy execution of public projects.

Work on modernising the bridge over stormwater drain was taken up under the Karnataka Municipal Renovation Project. It was completed ten days ago, yet the road that was closed for the purpose was in an unmotorable condition, causing inconvenience to the residents.

Pile of mud on the road, pieces of logs used during the construction work and a concrete structure laid to store the water remain uncleared on the road making it unmotorable.

The residents on the 4th Main Road, 6th Cross in Ward 13 and those from Takel had suffered the problem due to closure of the road when the work was going on. However, the civic agency’s apathy towards clearing debris and repairing the road has upset them.

Despite repeated complaints neither the elected representatives of the Ward nor the officers concerned had visited the area. Tyagaraju, who represented the Ward in the council, was not available for even the residents though the area has several other problems including drinking water crisis.

When the residents blocked Takel Road, demanding immediate repair of the road, TMC vice-president S R Muraligowda had promised them that the commissioner would visit them and address the issues within a couple of days. However, the residents alleged, none have visited them so far.
