Last Updated 03 May 2018, 06:43 IST

The road map called for an immediate ceasefire and opening a political dialogue between the rebels and the government.

Zuma and leaders of several other African countries visited Libya over the weekend to meet Gaddafi on behalf of the African Union to mediate an immediate ceasefire between Libya's government troops and the rebel forces.

The delegation is also expected to meet with rebel leaders in the eastern city of Benghazi.

After popular movements overturned the rulers of Tunisia and Egypt , its immediate neighbours to the west and east, Libya has been experiencing a full-scale revolt, which began in Feb 2011, against Muammar Gadaffi government.
