Last Updated 11 April 2011, 17:28 IST

Speaking to reporters, KPCC President G Parameshwara said the government had announced grants to hundreds of temples and religious places, violating the poll code of conduct.

“On March 1, Rs 1.4 crore was allocated to religious places in Jagalur. The Davangere deputy commissioner was directed to release the grants. On March 19, a sum of Rs one crore was allocated to temples in Jagalur, Channagiri and Harapanahalli, while a sum of Rs 8.47 crore has been released for temples on  March 28,” Parameshwara said.

He further said after KPCC had written to the Office of Chief Electoral Officer and the same was forwarded to CEC, the latter issued a notice to Chief Secretary seeking an explanation.

“The officers who released the amount, the Minister who issued the order and the Chief Minister who despite knowing the fact is tight lipped are equally responsible and guity for this. We demand action against them within the provisions of law,” he said.

‘Gadkari protecting CM’

Taking a dig against BJP National President Nitin Gadkari and other leaders for defending Chief Minister Yeddyurappa against charges of corruption, Parameshwara said: “Gadkari has extended support to Anna Hazare, but he is shielding Yeddyurappa. Either he is misinformed about the Chief Minister’s deeds, or he is hand in glove with him,” he said.
