New coffee pulping unit will be a boon to growers

The new technology helps in the reuse of the water. This has become a boon to the growers of the region. In traditional method of pulping lot of water is required. There is always fear of water from pulping unit polluting the surroundings of the unit. At the same time, the polluted water from the unit is also hazardous to the cattle and the people.

According to rules, the Pollution Control Board should inspect the pulping units and check whether the firms are polluting the surroundings. However, with the new technology, the water can be reused. Hence, the quantity of polluted water is very less. Arabica coffee is grown in Somwarpet taluk. The quality of pulping depends on the price for Arabica coffee.

Hence, many have come forward to set up quality pulping unit in the region. In this background, the Coffee Board has come forward to provide financial assistance for the setting up of modern pulping unit in few selected villages.

The new pulping unit which was set up at Beloor costs Rs 40 lakh. A sum of Rs 20 lakh has been spent on the mechines. About 90 per cent of the works are being handled by the machines in the unit. Hence, the dependence on labourers is less. The water which will be used for washing the coffee beans will be stored in a tank for reuse.

The unit can process about 3,500 kg coffee beans in one hour.
