JSS Ayurveda hospital to get new abode

B N Betkerur, executive secretary of JSS Mahavidyapeetha told reporters on Monday that the new infrastructure was built with the aim of popularising traditional system of medicines and to extend quality health service to the patients undergoing treatment in Ayurveda and other alternative therapies.

“The JSS institution is working on herbal and ayurvedic medicines in Ooty. The new campus will provide an impetus to the research work. The Mahavidyapeetha aims to develop a research unit in the hospital premises which can produce and develop herbal medicines,” he disclosed.

Dr Guru Basavaraj, Chief Medical Officer of JSS Ayurveda Hospitals said the 200 bed hospitals would offer all ayurveda treatments like Panchakarma, Shalyathantra, Yoga and other methods. The hospital has a trained and experienced group of ayurveda professionals and doctors. So far, the 6.7 lakh patients have been treated as out patients and about 45,000 teachers underwent treatment as in-patients. A separate two new buildings for hospital and Ayurveda college has come up in a span of about two and half years after the foundation stone was laid in June 2008, he said.

Vice-Chancellor of JSS Medical Institutions, Dr B Suresh said the JSS has a unique advantage to integrate all the medical services to provide best services. The Institution has plans to develop its own ayurveda and herbal medicines and essential infrastructure has been established, he added.

Hitherto, the JSS Ayurveda Medical college and Hospital operating on a modest building campus in front of JSS hospital on Ramanuja Road will now shift to the new campus near Lalithamahal Palace. Baba Ramdev of Divya Yoga Mandir would inaugurate the newly built hospital, while Sadguru Jaggi Vasudev of Isha Foundation would inaugurate the college building. A exhibition on ayurveda and other traditional system of medicines would also be organised on the day.

The JSS Institution also runs a Yoga and Naturopathy college and hospital in Coimbatore. Principal of Ayurveda college Lakshmeesh Upadhyaya, Director of Medical Services of JSS Mahavidyapeetha Dr Mahesh, Dr Krishnamurthy and others were present at the press meet.

Lecture on Technology and Health

As part of its golden jubilee endowment lecture series of the JSS Mahavidyapeetha, the Sadguru Sri Jaggi Vasudev will deliver a lecture on “Technology and Well-Being” at Rajendra auditorium of JSS Medical Institutions campus at Shivarathreeshwara Nagar on April 13 at 5 pm.

Dr B Suresh, Vice-Chancellor of JSS University said this was the fourth in the series of lectures started after constituting an endowment in the memory of golden jubilee of Mahavidyapeetha celebrated in 2004. Nandan A Nilekani, presently the Chairman of Unique Identification Authority of India had delivered the first lecture followed by Dr Sam Pitroda and scientist Prof C N R Rao.
