Govt Ayurvedic Hospital sets for a facelift

The Government Ayurvedic Hospital and College in Mysore, which held its centenary celebrations year ago, is all set to get a facelift.

The patients who were regularly put into inconvenience due to defunct x-ray machine and other equipment can now breathe easy as the hospital has got a new X-ray machine, which would be installed shortly.

Earlier, the patients who were advised for an x-ray by the doctors here to assess the ailment to decide on the course of treatment were put into inconvenience as the 27-year-old x-ray machine was continuously under repair and had gone defunct lately.

They had no other option but to spend hundreds of rupees at private laboratories and x-ray centres.

Speaking to Deccan Herald, Dr Aruna, Principal of Ayurveda College said that the institution which began its degree courses from 1967-68 has produced hundreds of ayurvedic experts, who have been practicing successfully and also creating awareness on the importance of Ayurveda therapy.

Moreover, the hospital and the college is being spruced up on par with the state-of-the-art hospitals and is being renovated approximately at a cost of ` 1.5 crore.

Additional facilities are being added for the benefit of the patients, who come from not only Mysore city but also from the surrounding areas, she said.

There were complaints that there were shortage of medicines earlier and now, steps have been taken to see that the medicines being supplied from Bangalore is abundant and there are no such complaints. The current 150-bedded hospital would also be renovated and given a new look.

The existing pharmacy would be upgraded to a two-storeyed one and the college would also have a new PG block for the post graduate candidates.

Plans are on to construct a additional floor for the boys hostel, to accommodate more students in future. Apart from this, regular training under NRHM scheme and Continuing Medical Education programme is also being conducted, Aruna stated.

It may be recalled that a new Ayurvedic Research Centre and 100-bedded Naturopathy College and Hospital is coming up on KRS road, opposite PKTB Sanatorium, for which the foundation stone is being laid by Medical Education Minister S A Ramadas on April 13. A 100-bedded panchakarma hospital is also under construction, which would be completed in a year. 

It is certain that Ayurveda, which have hordes of people including hollywood stars lineating towards the therapy, is sure to add glitter to the heritage city.
