Rejuvenation of 50 lakes: ` 20 cr for Ch'nagar dist

The district administration has prepared list of lakes to be revived based on the report submitted by the respective legislators.

Works would start after approval of the project.

Of ` 20 crore, the district administration has planned to develop Budamballi lake in Chamrajanagar Assembly constituency at a cost of ` 40 lakh, Koladabeedhi lake at ` 20 lakh and Melur at ` 35 lakh.

The lakes will be developed by Panchayat Raj Engineering division in consultation with Department of Minor Irrigation, Karnataka Rural Infrastructure Development Corporation and Major Water Resources Department. 

The district administration would develop Honganur Hirekere lake which is the biggest lake in the Chamarajanagar taluk at a cost of ` 2.20 crore. Although, this lake has been identified to take up lift irrigation scheme, officers and elected representatives never showed interest to fill up this tank from the Kabini canal. Meanwhile, the villagers have urged the government to take steps to remove silt from the lake to improve its storage.
