If a cat crosses your path while you are embarking on an important assignment, it will bring you bad luck is the belief that many still have.

However, there are some people who believe otherwise.

It all began when there were newspaper reports about kittens found in the strong room where electronic voting machines are kept in G H College premises. The luck of these kittens seem to have changed.

This is not what the astrologers, the soothsayers or the godmen are saying. This is the belief that has given rise among the politicians. If they get those kittens then their political luck will automatically change for the better is their calculations. Hence, the demand to find these kittens has gone up. A Bangalore-based politician not only came to Haveri on Friday to adopt them, but desperately searched for the kittens for nearly two hours.

However, the person who had to return disappointed when he could not find them was none other than Janata Dal (Secular) State General Secretary Milind Dharmasen.

After reading about the kittens found  among the voting machines, he reached Haveri and took the permission of Deputy Commissioner P S Vastrad to search for the kittens in the G H College premises. Even a few police personnel assisted him in the search. But the kittens were nowhere to be found.

Later, speaking to the media, Dharmasen said, “The kittens are really fortunate to have seen the voting machines as soon as they were born. Besides, the fact that the kittens had survived without their mother, food and water is no mean achievement. Hence, I came to find and adopt them.” He said that he was not disappointed that he did not find the kittens. “I have confidence that on the counting day they will surface again and then I will adopt them,” he added.

If the kittens are found, one of them will be named Chand and given as a gift to the candidate who is from a secular party and wins the election (except belonging to the BJP), he said.

It is really not known whether the kittens will bring luck to the politicians. But if they are found and adopted then one thing is certain that the kittens luck will change, feel the intellectuals of the town.
